Need to ID a tree?
There's an app for that!
These days there's an app for everything, including tree identification thanks to folks at Columbia University, the University of Maryland, and the Smithsonian Institution!
Leafsnap is some cool new visual recognition software to help identify species of trees from photographs. It turns users into citizen scientists, automatically sharing images, species identifications, and geo-coded stamps of species locations with a community of scientists who will use the stream of data to map and monitor the ebb and flow of flora nationwide.
Check it out at www.LeafSnap.com and download the app to your iPhone!
